Gear up for the CityParks Kids 2009 summer-long festival! CityParks Kids will be bringing back old favorites – like Imagination in Motion and Queen Nur – and introducing some exciting new artists performing in all five boroughs. The festival will offer 155 performing arts events in over 30 parks.
The season starts July 9 and runs through August 13, Monday through Friday. Please be sure to come out to support our FREE performances, bring your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, camp group, children at heart…all are welcome! You can find the complete lineup at cityparksfoundation.org.
After meeting the wonderful duo of Imagination in Motion in summer of 2007, I was instantly hooked. Mimes that talk? Sign me up! Combining mime physicality with athletic comedy sketches, Mime x Two will excite every child in the audience. This show is interactive, and a few volunteers will get to perform on stage with the duo. Imagination in Motion are performing three times this summer, so be sure to check it out.
Queen Nur has been performing for CityParks Kids for over four seasons. Children will be regaled by Queen Nur’s beautiful singing voice, discover important life lessons, and learn a thing or two about traditional African instruments. Queen Nur’s shows are always very intimate and community oriented; she makes every person in the audience feel special. There are three chances to catch Queen Nur perform.
Joining the Kids schedule this year will be the wonderfully talented Lizz Fields. Miss Fields will dazzle children with her jazzy voice, all the while teaching them about manners. Entitled “Ms. Lizz’s School for Manners and Other Useful Tips for Doing Great Things” Lizz Fields vibrantly illustrates basic life lessons that every child should know. This production is brand new and specially written for CityParks Foundation. Be sure to be the first to check it out!
Without your support we would have no programs. Thank you to all the children who continually brave the sun and heat year after year to see our free programs! Seeing your smiling faces is why we love our job. See you in the park! –Nell Bromley
