Community Garden Programs in your Neighborhood!

24 Jul

Grove Hill 2009Through the first three weeks of July, hundreds of children and families have visited our Learning Gardens in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx, learning about the life in the garden as they plant, play and enjoy the experience of getting their hands dirty. At Grove Hill Garden in the Bronx, children have munched on mint leaves, examined earthworms, scoured for strawberries and planted corn, beans and pumpkins for harvest in the fall.

At Liberty Garden in Jamaica, Queens, students have harvested fresh carrots for an afternoon snack and made their own pesto sauce out of garlic and basil grabbed from the garden. Families – children and adults alike – have been attending Plant and Play sessions on Saturday afternoons and Tuesday nights at Liberty, building beds for planting, transplanting crops and sampling fresh veggies directly from the soil.

Umoja Summer And Umoja Garden has become a spectacle of color on Broadway in Bushwick, as bright annuals and painted birdhouses –the products of young visitors to the garden – complement the greenery of fresh herbs and vegetables throughout the green space.

Join us for Plant and Play Time!

At Umoja and Grove Hill Gardens: Thursdays from 4-7 pm &  Saturdays from 1-4 pm.  At Liberty Garden: Tuesdays from 4-7 pm & Saturdays from 1-4 pm.
