Community Comments: CityParks Concerts

28 Jul

Slick Rick by Daniel Keltz“Ever since I discovered CityParks Concerts last year, they have become the highlight of my summer.  I am from Brooklyn, but I love traveling to different boroughs and discovering new neighborhoods.  In addition to traveling, I love that CityParks Concerts are about quality hip-hop and quality music in general.  While I was not around during the era when hip-hop was done in the parks, CityParks Concerts enables to me to experience the essence of hip-hop’s purity.

As for the Slick Rick concert, I knew rain was in the forecast, but I wasn’t going to let the elements hold me back.  I traveled in the pouring rain to the bandshell in hopes that the concert would not be cancelled.  When I got to the bandshell, it was surprisingly empty and there was no music blasting from the sound system.  After being uncertain as to whether it would go on, the crew started setting up and I knew it was happening.  When Rick the Ruler blessed the stage, the rain came to a full halt and more people came to the stage.  While it was shorter than the other concerts, Slick’s presence made up for the lack of length.  He rocked the mic until 8:30pm and then took pictures as he walked back to his vehicle.  The concert was everything a hip-hop fan could ask for.”  — Daniel Keltz, Brooklyn

“When I hear of someone worth while attending then I gather up my belongings and drive in [from New Jersey].  I feel comfortable in NY cause I was born here. We lived in the uptown area, on Grand Concourse Blvd. Especially since these summer events are FREE I am there.”  — Orlando Jackson, NJ
